1. My single biggest Aha! moment that I will take away from this class:
My single biggest Aha! moment from this class was, honestly, understanding privilege and how it works. This came to
me on the first day of class when we had to fill out the questionnaire about different situations that happen to people
on a daily basis. I never understood how soceity worked, how it "gives out" privilege. It isn't something that I had
noticed on a daily basis because I, myself, am a privileged individual. This really helped me open up my mind to
what I would be learning in this class and I learned to apply it to my every day life. I see things I didn't see before,
and I pay close attention to the interactions around me.
2. My single biggest Hmm...I still have:
My single biggest Hmm...from this class still remains to be how society can be so blind. It's so easy to see the bad in
everything and everyone and we choose not to see the good. All soceity can focus on is the negative, the "what's
wrong with this picture." We never choose to see the beauty in things. We are a blind culture and choose to shut
out the beautiful and replace it with what we perceive as unnatural. It is hard for me to understand why everyone
can not just be, and tolerate what's around them.
3. Ten years from now, what I will remember from this class:
Ten years from now I am going to remember how much this class taught me to tolerate and love. I will remember
how to read and appreciate literature on a deeper level of understanding and really take it to heart. Above all, I will
remember to never pass a judgement against my "Other" and to do everything in my power to understand and accept
them into my life.
4. How this class connects with other General Education classes I have taken:
This class connects to other General Education classes because it has taught me how to read society for what it is.
It's easier to understand the world you live in if you can understand and tolerate how it works. We don't have to accept
it, but we can certainly tolerate it. In relation to other General Education classes, GLBT Studies really makes you think,
and will help when applying my own knowledge and understanding of soceity in my other classes.
